There's a wonderful lounge and stylish bar in the main house, together with croquet on the lawn and a sunny south facing terrace leading to wild meadows and a llama paddock. Down at The Lake House (a mile away) residents have use of an indoor pool, sauna and (shared) outdoor hot tub. In-room spa treatments can be arranged through reception.

Rates at Gilpin Hotel include a delicious five course dinner for two. It's not a place for those on a budget, but the surroundings are beautiful.

Spotless, classic-contemporary rooms come with minibars, a hospitality tray with tea, coffee and homemade biscuits, fluffy towels and bathrobes, Molton Brown toiletries and fresh flowers. Garden suites have private patios and individual outdoor hot tubs, while Junior suites have private patios leading to the gardens.
We loved the Garden suites, with their decks and individual cedarwood hot tubs. At the Lake House, with its waterside hot tub (available to all guests), the Harriet Suite seduces with 25 feet of wall-to-wall glass windows, huge bathroom and stunning views of the private lake and surrounding woodland.
Eat & Drink
Classically-based modern cooking from has an emphasis on local produce and west coast seafood, complemented by an impressive cellar. Four distinct dining rooms make up the restaurant – from the Georgian style original dining room to the floral garden room and sleek conservatory.
Breakfast is served until 10.00 and includes cooked specialities like Cumbrian rarebit, eggs Benedict and vegetarian options.

Get on your bike, stroll up to Cat Crag or ride a horse across the countryside – there are plenty of activities on the doorstep in addition to rowing or sailing on the lakes. The Lake District has inspired countless writers and artists; visit Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere, walk to Beatrix Potter’s home Hill Top near Sawrey, or get creative at the Blackwell Arts and Crafts House in Bowness.
